A day after their party supremo J Jayalalithaa was convicted and sentenced in the disproportionate assets case, AIADMK MLAs are meeting in Chennai on Sunday to choose a candidate for the Chief Minister's post. Party sources said the meeting will be held later in the day and all the Legislators have been asked to be present.
A majority of the Ministers of the Jayalalithaa Cabinet and MLAs were in Bangalore since yesterday to know the outcome of the Special Court verdict. Jayalalithaa was handed down a four-year simple prison term and Rs 100 crore fine by the court in a verdict that sent shock waves among the AIADMK cadres.

Meanwhile, four key officials attached to the Tamilnadu Chief Minister's Secretariat called on Jayalalithaa in Bangalore. Former Chief Secretary and currently Advisor to Chief Minister Sheela Balakrishnan, Secretaries Venkataraman, Ramalingam and Sudalai Kannan left Chennai by a private airliner, according to airport sources.
The reason for the meeting was not immediately known.
Cadres gather at party HQ
Meanwhile,  AIADMK cadres continued to throng the headquarters here to express their disappointment at the verdict handed over to their party supremo. A middle-aged man even tried to set himself ablaze. Meanwhile, a section of women cadres today staged a fast in front of MGR Samadhi on Kamarajar Salai.
Normalcy returns
Normalcy returned, a day after sporadic violence erupted in several parts of the State yesterday. Bus services, suspended in many parts of the State, were being resumed while commercial establishments, including hotels and shops, were open in Chennai and elsewhere.
Police said no major untoward incident was reported in the State today
Police personnel were posted at vulnerable places and patrol had been increased to monitor the situation in and and around the city and rural areas. In Srirangam, the Assembly constituency of Jayalalithaa, shops were opened from this morning.
FIR against MK, Stalin
FIRs have been filed against DMK chief M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin on complaints by AIADMK workers in connection with a clash. Following the complaint, Royapettah police filed a FIR.
